The museum
Saint-Servais, Yan’ Dargent’s native village, is today the place that best reveals the artist’s dimension.
Housed in the village’s former boys’ school, the Yan’ Dargent Museum is modest in size and resources. It does, however, provide a pleasant opportunity to discover the life and work of this self-taught, prolific 19th-century artist, deeply attached to his Breton origins.
In the same space, the museum exhibits a wide range of painted works and a large collection of drawings and illustrated books by the artist. It introduces visitors to the life of Yan’ Dargent and presents all the facets of his talent. We discover him as a landscape painter, portraitist, painter of the legendary, painter of the sacred, and one of the greatest illustrators of his time.
A visit to the museum is complemented by a tour of the parish enclosure, featuring works of sacred art.
