The parish enclosure
The 17th-century church and ossuary are home to a large number of works by Yan’ Dargent. Some of these works were installed by the artist himself, while others have been acquired more recently. The ossuary, which was also Yan’ Dargent’s studio, preserves his head in a reliquary. The artist’s grave can be seen in the nearby cemetery.
The parish enclosure has benefited from a major restoration program carried out by the municipality with the support of various bodies. In particular, the Direction Régional des Affaires Culturelles DRAC, the Fondation Patrimoine, the Région Bretagne and the Conseil Départemental du Finistère. The restoration work also involved a large number of the works on display.
Note: two versions of La Mort de Salaün ar Foll can be found in the church : a huge oil on canvas, painted for the Saint-Servais ossuary, and a smaller oil on canvas, exhibited at the 1895 Salon.
Located in the town of Guimiliau, in the heart of Landivisiau country, the CIAP, architecture and heritage interpretation center “Les Enclos” opened its doors on April 26, 2018. Covering 150 m² of exhibition space entirely dedicated to parish enclosures, the CIAP offers enthusiasts and neophytes, locals and tourists alike, a plunge into the Breton golden age of the 16th and 17th centuries.
